Thiruvananthapuram: The final voters’ list of the district for
general elections scheduled to be held later this year has been published. District collector Geromic George, who is also the district election officer, said the voter’s list has been finalised including those who completed 18 years of age on January 1, 2024. He said 2,12,029 applications received after the publication of the draft voter’s list on January 5 last year have been scrutinized and 23,039 voters who have completed 18 years of age have been included in the final list.
Those who completed 18 years of age on January 1, 2024, will get another opportunity to include their name in the list, he added.
The final voter’s list will be made available free of cost to the recognized political parties. The people can check the voter’s list through taluk, village, local self-government institutions, and from the booth level officers.
The district collector said there will be 2,730 polling stations in Thiruvananthapuram district. The election commission has printed new 1,35,705 voter cards and are being distributed in the district.
Meanwhile, ‘Vote Vandi’, set up by the office of chief electoral officer to create awareness among voters about the election, including voting using EVM/VVPAT machines, began its Journey on Monday from Kowdiar. Chief electoral officer Sanjay Kaul flagged off the ‘Vote Vandi’, which will be touring all the 140 assembly constituencies of the state.
The chief electoral officer said that the aim of the campaign was to encourage people to vote and ensure 100% polling in the state. Along with the state-level inauguration, respective district collectors would flag off the ‘Vote Vandi’ in each district, he added. As part of the flag off ceremony, programmes like roller skating, flash mob, Chakyar Koothu and chenda melam were organized by students. Thiruvananthapuram sub collector Ashwati Srinivas, election officials and others were also present on the occasion.
