Film workshop for local body representatives

Thiruvananthapuram: The three-day film workshop for local govt representatives, organised by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy in collaboration with the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (Kila), commenced on Thursday. The workshop is part of a comprehensive cultural initiative launched by finance minister K N Balagopal.The workshop, held at the Kila-CHRD (centre for human resource development) in Kottarakkara, is attended by selected representatives of various local bodies from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. Representatives and officials from the Kottarakkara municipality, seven village panchayats and two block panchayats are also participating.The workshop features the screening and discussion of films and documentaries focusing on democratic values, gender equality and public welfare activities. State film award winning director Sherry Govindan is the camp director. Films such as ‘The President' by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, ‘The Net' by Kim Ki-duk, ‘Court' by Chaitanya Tamhane, ‘I, Daniel Blake' by Ken Loach and ‘B 32 to 44' by Shruthi Sharanyam will be exhibited at the workshop. Documentaries related to issues such as drinking water, waste management and urban planning will also be featured.The finance minister will engage with camp members about the themes presented in the films. Sherry will moderate the discussions. Chalachitra Academy chairman Premkumar will distribute the certificate on March 15. K V Mohan Kumar, R Parvathi Devi, Shiju Khan, Chalachitra Academy secretary C Ajoy and Kila-CHRD director V Sudheesh will participate in various sessions at the workshop.
