FILCA int’l film fest from Friday
Thiruvananthapuram: The seventh
The 17th edition of the festival will focus on Polish film director Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Dekalog, a television drama series based on Ten Commandments.
Organised in association with Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Goethe Zentrum and Federation of Films Societies, the week-long festival will be held at the University Students Centre in PMG.
Renowned film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan will inaugurate the festival in a function to be held at 5.30pm on Friday. Director and chairman of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Kamal, vice-chairperson Beena Paul and president of Theatron Ambi will attend the event.
In addition to Dekalog, ‘The Double Life of Veronique’ and ‘Three Colours: Blue’ directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski will be screened at the festival.
Spanish film ‘The Impossible’, directed by J A Bayona and Manipuri film ‘Lady of the Lake’ directed by Haobam Paban Kumar will be the inaugural films. As many as 43 films in various categories including Indian cinema, Malayalam cinema, World cinema, short film and documentary will be screened at the festival.
“Five films will be screened every day. There will be discussion on films at 6pm. Three films directed by women filmmakers will be screened in regional category in this edition,” said M K P Nair, general secretary of FILCA.
Eleven films in international category will be screened at the festival.
In Indian film category, films in Kannada, Orissa, Assamese, Manipuri and Rajasthani languages will be screened.
Suryakantha, a film in Sanskrit directed by M Surendran, Pinneyum directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Ottayal Paatha directed by Santosh Babusenan and Satish Babusenan and Kaviyude Osyath directed by Vineeth Anil are included in the Malayalam cinema category. In short film category, ‘Raja Ravi Varma’ by Venu Nair will be screened.
