The film is based on a novel by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov. The book, which was a stinging satire on the concept of new man, was initially banned in the Soviet Union. Later it was officially released in 1987 and became a cultural phenomenon in Russia.
Sreekrishnan says he wanted to delve deep into the philosophical aspects of the book.
“The characters in the book are of a metaphysical nature, which lend it a graphical quality. There is ample scope in digital platform to explore that aspect,” says Sreekrishnan .
The film was made with a small crew and was shot with a budget of Rs 13 lakh.
“I really enjoyed making this film. My objective behind this movie was the philosophical exploration of the subject it discussed,” Sreekrishnan said.

“I have followed every single edition of IFFK closely. It was one of my sources of inspiration and I am really excited about my film being screened at IFFK,” he said.
The film also has its world premiere at IFFK. His first film ‘Marupathai’ was made in Tamil in 2011. The film was based on nationalism and local mining of gold.
