Docu-fiction on women reformers to premiere today

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the premiere of a

docufiction

on the role of women in the social reformation of the state at 7pm on Tuesday at the Tagore Theatre here.

‘Vimochanathinte Pattukar’ has been co-produced by the state department of women and children, Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) and department of information & public relations.

The film, directed by Vidhu Vincent, was made as part of the state government’s ‘sadhairyam munnottu’ programme as part of its women’s empowerment efforts. Health and social justice minister KK Shailaja will preside over the function.

The film is narrated through the relationship between a girl and her grandmother. Through music, the girl learns about the history of social reforms in the state. Ahead of the screening, floral tributes will be paid at major memorials, such as Annie Mascrene square, Akkamma Cherian square, EMS park and Martyr’s square. Artists PK Medhini, Vidhu Vincent, Shruthi Nampoothiri and Divya Gopinath will lead the event.

A tribute led by Sayonara will be held at the main venue at 4pm. This will be followed by a cultural programme of students from various colleges. A discussion on ‘Kerala women: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ will be held at 6pm. Screening of the docufiction will be held after the discussions. This will be followed by a performance of the music band ‘Chumadutangi’. The event will conclude with a night walk by women.
