DAC to deliver disabled-friendly house to beneficiary in K’god

Thiruvananthapuram: The disabled-friendly house constructed by the city-based Different Art Centre (DAC) will be handed over to the beneficiary on Saturday at Kanhangad in Kasaragod.The key to the house will be handed over by lyricist-composer Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri. The house is being constructed for the family of Anu and Varsha, residents of Maukod in Kasaragod district. The land was donated by philanthropist Bhaskaran in Iriya. Singer KS Chithra will be the chief guest at the event.During the function, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will unveil the master plan for the construction of the International Institute for People with Disabilities (IIPD).The IIPD will feature international standard art and sports training facilities, state-of-the-art therapy amenities, personalised assistive device units, vocational training centres, medical facilities and training centres. The centre is being constructed to support children, including those affected by endosulfan.The project is planned with a budget of Rs 100 crore. The initial phase of construction is expected to be completed by 2026, with the entire project operational by 2029. Once completed, the IIPD will become the largest institution for people with disabilities in India. The campus is designed to train 500 individuals with disabilities annually in various fields.
