Cyber police book man for sharing min’s video

Thiruvananthapuram: City cyber police registered a case on Saturday against a person for sharing a video of the minister for general education V Sivankutty visiting Muthalapozhi after a boat capsized off Vizhinjam harbour a few days ago.
The suo-motu case was registered against Vizhinjam native Leon Johnson for sharing an edited video of the minister’s visit to criticise the government apathy towards the issues of fishermen. The video was telecast in a local news channel and the accused allegedly edited it to publish on his Facebook profile.
“The accused shared the video by adding some obscene and vulgar comment in it with an intention to spread communal hatred. The case was registered under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act-2000 and also sections of IPC 153 for a provocative act calling for riot, 294-b for abusing and 506 for criminal intimidation,” said cyber police.
The video was shared on his page on Friday and it went viral on social media within minutes.
Four fishermen drowned after a boat capsized off Vizhinjam harbour on July 10 and the spate of boat accidents at the entrance of the breakwater triggered protests from the fishing community. It further escalated with the visit of ministers Sivankutty, Antony Raju and G R Anil. The protesting fishermen got annoyed after the minister told them not to put them on a show.
Soon the scene turned chaotic and police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.
The Facebook user used a video of the minister visiting Muthalapozhi to criticise the government and to expose the attitude of the government towards the issues faced by the community.
