CM urges Centre to ensure safety of Indians in Gulf
T'puram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan requested the Centre to take urgent steps to ensure the safety of Indians in the Gulf region following the escalating crisis after the US-Israel attack on Iran. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, the chief minister expressed concern over the potential impact of the developments on countries across the Gulf, where a large number of Indians, including Keralites, work.Stating that the situation has triggered anxiety among families back home, particularly in Kerala, Vijayan urged the Centre to closely monitor the evolving scenario and make necessary arrangements to protect Indians. He also asked the Centre to prepare evacuation plans if the situation deteriorates further.
"I write this letter to share our apprehensions on the situation consequent to the attack on Iran, which is now having its adverse impact on all the countries of the Gulf region," Vijayan wrote. The chief minister noted that a significant number of Keralites live in Gulf countries and that their relatives are increasingly worried about their safety and security amid rising tensions. He expressed confidence that the Centre is seriously assessing the situation and would take appropriate steps to safeguard Indian nationals.Vijayan added that the state govt will set up helplines and other mechanisms to help families remain in contact with expatriates during the ongoing tensions abroad.US, Israel rogue nations, says VijayanVijayan also condemned the killing of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei and alleged that US and Israel were behaving like rogue nations trying to destroy countries and leaders who disagreed with them. He said the two countries were pursuing ‘insane' actions. He said just as individuals are expected to maintain basic decency in their dealings with one another, nations too must uphold certain standards. No country can insist that another adopt identical positions or opinions. Yet some rogue nations are resorting to tactics similar to those of thugs. It is American imperialism — armed with vast military resources wealth and a relentless appetite for war — that is leading these rogue nations he said.Vijayan said that is the reason the world witnessed the scene of a president being taken into custody along with his wife, referring to the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife. "Now, Iran has been attacked. Were they able to present a reason for the attack? They have gone to the extent of eliminating Ayatollah Khamenei, whom that nation regards as its supreme leader, along with his daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law" he said.
