Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over the keys of 320 houses constructed at

Vizhinjam, Mathipuram

, as part of Rajiv Awas Yojana (

RAY

) on Monday. The project aims to build houses and facilities for 1,032 families in four phases.
In the first phase construction of 222 houses was completed and keys were handed over to the beneficiaries. Construction of 320 houses was completed in the second phase of RAY spending Rs 33.79 crore. Water connection and electricity have been ensured in all the houses.
The corporation authorities have informed that work on the next phase of the project will begin soon. It is aimed at providing residential facilities to the homeless fishermen community. LSG minister

The list of beneficiaries of the project was finalised in 2011 and the project, which was estimated to be completed at Rs 72 crore, aims at legalizing slums and thus help the dwellers avail the same level of basic amenities that the rest of the town gets. TNN
