City police book 14 NDPS, 50 Abkari cases in night crackdown
Thiruvananthapuram: City police registered 14 cases under NDPS Act and 50 Abkari cases during a late-night security crackdown conducted across the capital as part of intensified efforts to curb criminal activities and strengthen public safety. The operation, led by city police commissioner Karthik K, was carried out at key junctions, bus stands, railway station premises, lodges, rented houses and labour camps across the city.
Police said the coordinated inspections were aimed at ensuring public safety, preventing crimes and maintaining law and order in the capital. During the operation, police checked 185 anti-social elements listed in the criminal records. Those involved in various offences and persons included in the rowdy history sheet were placed under special surveillance as part of preventive policing measures. Officials said the inspection was part of a broader strategy to monitor habitual offenders and track suspicious activities. Vehicle inspections were also conducted simultaneously at multiple locations. Around 987 vehicles, including two-wheelers and other vehicles, were checked during the drive. Legal action was taken against 704 violators under the Motor Vehicles Act for various offences. Among them, 94 cases were registered for offences such as drunken driving, obstructing traffic and other traffic violations. Police also questioned several suspicious persons found moving in different areas during the operation. In addition to the cases registered during the crackdown, police also executed 17 long-pending (LP) warrants and 44 other warrants issued by various courts to police stations. Officials said such large-scale inspections help strengthen policing in public spaces and act as a deterrent against criminal activities. The commissioner said similar night-time inspections and security checks will continue in the coming days as part of efforts to enhance surveillance and ensure the safety of locals.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Women's day wishes, messages and quotes !
