Corp to launch city’s first She Hub at Thampanoor
Thiruvananthapuram: In a first of its kind venture, the city corporation will launch entrepreneurial hubs for women in the city. Titled She hub, the first one will be opened at Overbridge in Thampanoor ward.The civic body will call for an expression of interest from women entrepreneurs to run She Hubs in the city. It can be a group comprising 5-20 women. One of the members should have experience in IT related sectors. B-Tech, IT, BSc Computer science, MCA and English language proficiency are the skills required for taking up the job.The civic body will provide a working space of 150 sq.m which can accommodate 26 people at a time. A conference hall with a seating capacity of 26 equipped with LED projector, chair, table will also be set up at the She Hub. A cafetaria, manager cabin, front office, broadband connection, toilet, three-phase connection and air-conditioned rooms will be other facilities at the She Hub.“We are mainly looking for ventures who offer various online-based services for the public. The services will be run entirely by women, but anybody who wants to avail the services can open their own establishments in this space. It will be a mini version of an IT park,” said an official associated with the project.Computer training, various training programmes, online services, conference facility and mini screen facility based services are some of the services being offered at the hub. “Anyone who wishes to make use of the space for an online-based job or academic related purpose can also use the facility. Charge per hour for availing the facility will be decided by the entrepreneur,” said an official.The corporation is launching She Hubs based on work near home project which was announced in the state budget. According to the budget, ‘Work Near Home’ is a system of employment that has been successfully implemented around the world in the aftermath of Covid pandemic.The government plans to provide three types of facilities for this; centres for industries willing to provide remote works to IT related employees, centres for those engaged in gig jobs or remote works and common facility centres, the budget document noted.For the operations of such centres there will be a partnership model formed by the state government, private sector and local self government institutions. The KIIFB fund will be provided to LSGIs as an interest-free loan. Fund will be fully disbursed after ensuring employment. The loan amount should be repaid by the LSGIs in ten years after the moratorium period of one year from the completion of construction, the budget document said.
