Children’s film fest from Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: Evergreen classic comedy movies ‘Modern Times’ and ‘The Kid’ directed by Charlie Chaplin; ‘Life is beautiful’ by Roberto Benigni; ‘Queen of Katwa’ by Meera Nair; Majid Majidi’s ‘Children of Heaven’; Rima Das’s ‘Village Rockstars’; and all-time favourite of children, ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’, are the some of the films that will be screened at the second edition of International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK) which will begin here on Friday.

The seven-day film festival, exclusively conducted for the those in the age group of five to 18, will be a visual treat with around 140 films to be screened under various categories such as world classics, Indian classics, Malayalam feature films, international children-friendly films, short films and documentaries. K K Shailaja, minister for woman and child welfare, will inaugurate the festival which is jointly organized by Kerala State Council for Child Welfare and Kerala State Chalachithra Academy at 2pm on Friday at Tagore theatre. Cooperation minister Kadakampally Surendran will preside over the function. Cultural minister A K Balan will be chief guest.

Those interested can enrol as delegates by paying Rs 500 as fee through http://www.icffk.com. Parents can register as delegates too.

Deepak SP, general secretary of Kerala State Council for Child Welfare, said that the film festival will be held in five theatres in the capital city: Kairali, Nila, Sree, Kalabhavan and Tagore. ‘Uyare’, a Malayalam movie directed by Manu Ashokan will be the inaugural film of the festival,” said Deepak.

In the wake of brutal attacks against children, the second edition of film festival aims to spread the message that it is the public who is responsible to ensure protection of kids.
