Chargesheet filed in Thiruvallom murder case
T’puram: Thiruvallom police filed a chargesheet against five accused in connection with murder of a youth who was stabbed near a bar at Vazhamuttam earlier this year. The victim, Sujith (25), of Pachallur, succumbed to injuries after the attack that took place on Feb 22.
Police said the murder was allegedly triggered by a long-standing rivalry between two groups, linked to an altercation during a festival held at Panathura nearly a year ago.
The chargesheet, running over 500 pages, was filed before judicial first class magistrate court in Neyyattinkara within 85 days of the incident after completion of the investigation by Thiruvallom police.
The accused named in the case are Akhil (25), his brother Akhilash (22), both of Vazhamuttam, Akshay (25), Nandu (32) of Pachallur and Ranjith (36) of Vellar Edavilakam.
According to police, Akhil, Akhilash and Akshay remain in judicial custody. Authorities have submitted an application seeking continuation of proceedings against them while in remand.
Thiruvallam SHO Biju said investigators collected evidence connecting the accused to the crime and found that the murder stemmed from sustained hostility between the groups involved.
Sujith suffered deep stab wounds on his chest and abdomen during the attack. Following the incident, he was initially taken to a private hospital in the city and later shifted to medical college hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries on Feb 23.
Sujith was the son of Sunil Kumar and Ajitha.
