presented the resolution to censure BJP councillors involved in reported manhandling of mayor V K Prasanth during the council meeting held in November.

The resolution sparked off tense debate between LDF and BJP as BJP councillor M R Gopan said that mayor V K Prasanth should have displayed some sense of patience and restraint while dealing with criticism. "In a democratic set up, there should be space for protest and as a mayor you should have the tolerance to bear with criticism," said M R Gopan. Anilkumar, another BJP councillor went on to say that

's mayor position was a result of BJP's generosity, a remark which triggered noisy protests in the LDF camp. He said that BJP was willing to admit its mistakes but LDF should also do the same and as regarding the censure resolution, it should apply to LDF councillors as well against whom cases have been registered.
