Thiruvananthapuram: Seven unused bullets were found inside a toilet at the railway hospital near Thiruvananthapuram Pettah railway station on Wednesday morning, triggering a police investigation. The bullets were discovered by sanitation workers who arrived to clean the facility. According to officials, the ammunition was found inside a mug kept in the toilet. A preliminary examination by ballistic experts confirmed that the cartridges were 9mm rounds manufactured for armed forces units at Kirkee in Pune. Initial suspicion is that the bullets may have been misplaced by some Railway Protection Force personnel who arrived in the state on election duty. Police are also examining whether the ammunition could be linked to an ex-serviceman currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Vanchiyoor police registered a case and initiated a detailed probe into how the bullets ended up inside the hospital toilet. Further investigation is under way to ascertain ownership and possible lapses in handling of the ammunition.
