BJP aims to double membership in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP state unit has set for itself an ambitious target of doubling its membership in Kerala which now stands at 15 lakh.
“The target, I am sure, is easily achievable with the active support of party workers and leaders. We can easily increase the membership from the current 15 lakh to 30 lakh during this phase of the membership campaign,” said the campaign in charge and party state vice-president K P Sreesan at the membership campaign launch here on Saturday.
On the membership campaign day on Sunday, leaders and workers would interact with voters at booth levels and invite them to take party membership by giving a miss call to the number 8980808080. On Monday, all feeder organizations of BJP would carry out the campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the campaign in Varanasi on Saturday. The party had run a similar campaign in 2016.
In the absence of Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was supposed to inaugurate the event as per the original schedule, BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai launched the drive in the state. Among those who formally received the party membership at the function, include Padmasree Lakshmikutty Amma, A P Abdulla Kutty, actor M R Gopakumar, Kalamandalam Sathya Bhama,
In his speech, Pillai said the BJP’s pain in not getting any seat from the state in the Lok Sabha election got attenuated by reading the CPM central committee’s election review report. “The CPM has asked its workers to pull their socks up to resist BJP’s ‘dangerous’ growth in Kerala. Even the CPM has acknowledged that BJP is growing exponentially and it is true,” he said. tnn
