THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police are yet to arrest Abdul Rahim, the owner of the private bus that rammed a biker at Thampanoor on Monday afternoon. The victim, Robin Albert (58), of Valiathura died at the medical college on Tuesday while under treatment.
Traffic police had charged Abdul Rahim, the owner of MAR private bus, with abetment to crime. The driver, Pramod Das, was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Traffic assistant commissioner K S Suresh Kumar said the arrest of Abdul Rahim was postponed following the intervention of private bus owners in the city. They visited him on Wednesday and demanded a fair probe.
The police had booked Abdul Rahim after a mechanic, who regularly repaired the bus, certified that the bus was unfit for service. The bus owners told the assistant commissioner that the mechanic had some disputes with Abdul Rahim which could be why he falsely deposed against Abdul Rahim.
"We need to have all supporting evidence before arresting him," Suresh Kumar said. As a result, the traffic police on Wednesday sought the service of a motor vehicle inspector to inspect the bus, which is in custody.
Further steps would be taken only after verifying the MVI's report,
the AC said. The deceased Robert is survived by wife Nancy and children Rolce and Roshna.
