THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bike rental shop at

, which was supposed to be inaugurated next week, caught fire on Sunday. According to a staff of the shop, 31 newly-purchased bikes and all the office accessories were gutted.
“The bikes were purchased at a cost of Rs 50 lakh and the office accessories cost Rs 10 lakh. In total, we incurred a loss of over Rs 60 lakh in the fire,” said

in Kochi had hired the space in the ground floor of a three-storey building here to run a bike rental business. The other floors in the building were vacant. The cause of the fire will be known only after a forensic analysis.
The fire occurred in the wee hours on Sunday. By seeing fumes coming out of the building, pedestrians informed the police and fire and rescue services. Four fire units reached the spot immediately and brought the fire under control in an hour.
Police have registered a case for fire occurrence and started a preliminary investigation.
