THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The youth icon awards for the best sportsperson instituted by the state youth commission will be presented to Sajan Prakash, who bagged 6 gold and 3 silver medals, breaking several records in the recently concluded National Games. The award in the category of social services will be given to Aswathy Nair, founder of Jwala, an NGO that supports the homeless and the aged.
The awards announced here on Wednesday by youth commission chairman R V Rajesh, will be presented at the national youth meet to be held here on Friday.
Digaul Thomas from Wayanad bagged the award in the category of farming and animal husbandry. Others who have been selected in recognition of their achievements in various fields include Appunni Sasi (art), Faisal Khan (entrepreneurship) and Rashmi Benoy (literature).
The jury comprised Kerala Agriculture University vice-chancellor P Rajendran, KSIDC managing director M Beena, novelist T P Rajeevan, Kerala Sports Council president Padmini Thomas and Kerala State Cultural Welfare Board chairman G Suresh Kumar. The awards consist of Rs 10,000 cash prize and citation.
