Anti-women remark: Actor gets bail

Kollam: Karunagappally munsiff court on Tuesday granted bail to actor Kollam Thulasi in a case registered against him for the anti-women remarks he had made in connection with Sabarimala women entry issue. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the high court recently. Following this, he surrendered at the Chavara police station on Tuesday morning. He was produced in the Karunagapllay court.

The court granted him bail taking his ill health into consideration. Chavara police booked Thulasi on the charges of disrespecting womanhood after he made spiteful remarks against women who wanted to enter Sabarimala shrine. Police said that Thulasi had produced his treatment details.

P olice are yet to get the details of the bail conditions. On October 12, 2018, at a reception accorded to the NDA’s long march led by BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai, Thulasi had said that those women who try to enter Sabarimala temple should be ripped apart and one piece should be sent to the chief minister’s office and the other to Delhi (Supreme court).

He was expressing his anger against the SC holding the ban on the entry of women of menstruating ages as anti-constitutional and the state government’s efforts to implement the order in a haste. The veteran actor’s remarks had triggered huge public outrage, inviting criticism from all corners. The BJP also had distanced itself from the actor’s views. Later, Thulasi had apologised for his comments.
