THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seeking to improve the quality of school education, the state government has set up a School Education Commission with eminent Kannada writer and educationist U R Ananthamurthy as chairman.
Former Additional Chief Secretary Dr D Babu Paul, Dr A Sukumaran Nair, Prof N Purushothaman and Prof K M Bhauddin would be the members of the commission, an official release said on Wednesday.
The commission would make recommendations for improving quality of education, making the school education student-oriented and revising the syllabus with an eye on imparting a thorough grounding in science and mathematics.
The panel would also address issues like regional imbalances in availability of schools and the distance between schools in different areas.
The report is to be submitted in four months, so that the government can implement them from the next academic year.
