‘Sallapam’ brings together senior citizens

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Social Security Mission conducted an innovative programme called ‘Sallapam’ for the benefit of senior citizens living in old age homes in the city. The programme was inaugurated by social welfare minister M K Muneer at the Museum compound here, on Wednesday.
As many as 100 inmates from four old age homes in the city were brought in specially arranged buses to the venue at 10.30am.

The senior citizens were taken on a two-hour tour of the zoo. After lunch, the inmates participated in an interactive session with film and television artistes.
Veteran Malayalam actors Madhu and Raghavan, actor and singer Krishnachandran, female actors Sona Nair and Manju Pillai took part in the event. Inspired by the overwhelming response for the programme, the Social Security Mission is planning to conduct similar programmes at the district-level in the near future.
