All key accused in Akhil murder case arrested
Thiruvananthapuram: The city police and the special shadow team have arrested all the key accused involved in the brutal murder of 26-year-old Akhil at Kaimanam. They are identified as Akhil, aka Appu, Vineeth Raj and and Sumesh. According to police, all the three are directly involved in the crime. With this, seven people have so far been arrested in the case. Appu was arrested by the shadow team near Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu on Sunday morning. He was brought to Thiruvananthapuram Fort police station for custodial interrogation and further action. Vineeth Raj was arrested by the police from Rajaji Nagar colony in the city where he was hiding. He was taken to Thampanoor police station for interrogation.Sumesh was taken into custody around 9pm on Sunday from Kochuveli. His arrest has also been recorded. According to the police, Vineeth was the one who hit Akhil on the head with a stone. The murder was committed as a retaliatory act stemming from a clash between two factions at a bar on April 26. The dispute was triggered by an altercation between Vineeth and the victim, Akhil.Four others who participated in the conspiracy, provided vehicles, and helped the three key accused to go in to hiding have also been arrested. Kuttappan, alias Anish, Harilal, Kiran Krishna, and Kiran are the others who have been arrested.“We are also checking whether more people were involved when the conflict occurred in the bar. We are verifying it, and more people are likely to be taken into custody,” said M Dinesh Kumar, Karamana station inspector.According to police, Vineeth and Akhil engaged in a heated dispute regarding entry into the bar when Vineeth and his associates arrived there. Following the argument, Akhil allegedly hurled a stone at Vineeth, leading to a minor altercation. Despite police intervention and the dispersal of the gangs involved, the accused had plotted to locate and harm Akhil, with intentions of premeditated murder, the police said. The murder took place around 6.30pm on Friday at a street near Kaimanam. The victim Akhil was a fish vendor. Except for Kiran, all the other accused in the case were involved in the Ananthu murder case that shocked the city in 2019. Ananthu was murdered following a dispute that happened during a local temple festival. In retaliation the same gang had brutally beaten and killed 19-year-old Ananthu. The accused were out on bail as the trial proceedings in the Ananthu murder case are getting delayed.
