300 artists come together to tell the tale of Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Three hundred young artists from across Kerala have united to stage a mega show to commemorate the rich art and cultural heritage of the state.

, in association with information and public relations department (I&PRD), was held at the valedictory venue of LDF government’s 1,000-day celebration here on Wednesday.

The three-hour-long programme won accolades for the manner in which iconic poems of masters from Ezhuthachan to ONV Kurup were weaved in the background of various

art forms

.

The multi-media show, directed by Pramod Payyannur, also featured 30 indigenous art forms of the state.

“When we conceived the event, the first thought was to make sure that all major art forms are portrayed in the event,” said Payyannur.

“The main objective of this programme is to culturally awaken the youth and thereby motivate them take interest in the art forms. Our small state is a treasure chest of diverse art forms,” said Pramod.

‘Yudhakandam’ from Ezhuthachan’s ‘Adhyatma Ramayanam’ was chosen for puppetry, Chinnathambi Annavi’s ‘Karalman Charitham’ was chosen as the background score for a brief episode of ‘chavittu naadakam’.

Vallathol’s ‘Ente Gurunadhan’ was played in the background of Kerala natanam.

“We have ensured that the natural rhythm, flow and style of the art forms are retained. Also, we wanted to keep the spectators engaged throughout the show,” said Payyannur.

The programmes started with a ‘mizhavu’ performance.

A song written by Prabha Varma and composed by K Omanakutty, which was themed on Rebuild Kerala was also part of the show.

The show concluded with the modernized version of Vylopalli Sreedhara Menon’s ‘Pandhangal’, which saw all 300 artists together on stage.

Samabhavana also featured staging of part of V T Bhattathiripad’s ‘Adukkalayil Ninnum Arangathekku’ and K T Muhammed’s ‘Ithu Bhoomiyaanu’ plays.
