THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 30-year-old woman doctor from the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram was found dead in a flat, police said on Wednesday.
Identified as Abhirami Balakrishnan, she was a senior resident doctor at the Medical College.
"After completing her masters in general medicine, she was working as a resident doctor at the government medical college," a police officer said.
The local police suspect it to be a case of suicide and are currently investigating. According to an officer, Balakrishnan, who had recently completed her masters in general medicine, was residing in a flat near Ulloor.
Police suspect that she may have injected herself with medication, noting that further details would only be determined after a post-mortem examination, he explained. A resident of Vellanad in the vicinity, Balakrishnan had been residing in the apartment for some time.
The tragic incident unfolded after her family members reached out to the landlord, informing him that she was not responding to their calls.
She was pronounced dead at the Medical College, according to the police. Abhirami had recently married another doctor, reportedly employed outside the state, several months earlier.
