THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two IPS officers from the state, Thrissur DIG S Surendran and Malappuram district police chief Abdul Kareem U, have been selected for the president’s police medal for the meritorious service and distinguished service, respectively.
S Surendran, an officer from 2005 batch of IPS, has also served as commissioner of Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam and district police chief of Alappuzha.
Abdul Kareem U, who is currently holding the additional charge of Malabar Special Police, Malappuram, has earlier served as SP, Kozhikode rural.
Other than the two IPS officers, 12 other officers have also been selected for the president’s police medal for meritorious service. They include SP and special branch CID K V Vijayan, assistant commandant of MSP T Sreerama, DSPs Radhakrishna Pillai B, Sreenivasan Dharmarajan, Thottathil Prajish, Wilson Varghese Pallassery and Saji Narayanan V, inspector Bhanumathy Chemenchery, sub-inspectors Madhanan Nair, Sunil Lal and C P Santhosh Kumar and assistant sub-inspector Mohandas Pullancheriyil.
While those who have completed 25 years in police are considered for president’s medals for distinguished service, those who have completed 18 years are considered for president’s medals for meritorious service.
