THANE: A man was arrested while trying to escape after targeting a woman commuter aboard a ladies coach at Thane station on Wednesday night.
The accused, Vikas Jha (26), a resident of Mira Road, was trailing the 20-year-old woman with the intention of snatching her mobile phone. "He entered the coach and forcefully snatched her handset and jumped off the train that had started moving.
The woman raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of fellow passengers who alerted the police," said an officer. A panicked Jha dropped the handset, and as he stopped to pick it up, he was overpowered by on-duty cops patrolling the stretch.
The police recovered the gadget from his person. Another mobile phone thief was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, nearly 12 hours after he stole the phone of a commuter aboard a crowded CSMT-bound fast train at Thane station.
