"I am really disappointed that the four who should have been hanged were acquitted," Yash's father Anil, 56, told TOI. "After my son's death there was anger in the city and all shops were closed and public had come out on streets to demand justice for Yash." At that time, senior police officials and the state government had assured we would get justice. When the arrest of the four accused after the kidnap and murder of Tushar Soni, 13, from the same building led to the cracking of the Yash case, the police had assured they are collecting evidence so that the accused would get maximum punishment in this case too, said Anil.

Yash's mother said the accused are habitual criminals who had killed two children and they might do so again if released from jail. Yash was his parents' only child. After his killing, his parents decided to have kids again; they now have two daughters, aged 13 and 9.

Anil, who is physically challenged, says he is a broken man. His tailoring shop has shut and he supports his family by doing odd jobs.

Tushar Soni's parents are also disappointed. "In my son's case, I was happy because court had convicted the two main accused with life imprisonment while two others were given five years jail. I am disappointed the court did not give justice to Yash Shah's family," said Tushar's father Kiran.
