Woman booked for 'shun Hindus' call
A Muslim woman has been booked by Murud police in Raigad for posting an audio message on social media asking for a boycott of Hindu businessmen. She posted the message allegedly after BJP MLA Nitesh Rane said in the area during the Ganpati festival that no business and property deals be made with Muslims. Murud police have booked the woman for creating enmity between groups and have served notice to her. The cyber cell is investigating the case.
The woman posted the message three days after Rane's remarks in Ulwe, and it went viral on Sept 14, police said. Rane had been booked by the police after he made the remarks.
There were back-to-back incidents of stone-pelting in the area in the second week of this month, after which police bandobast has been in place. Two children allegedly threw stones at a Ganpati immersion procession, injuring two women, on Sept 12. The next day, stones were pelted at two houses, causing damage.
