Underprivileged kids enact their problems on stage
Thane: With the number of child labour cases on the rise, renowned Marathi playwright Ratnakar Matkari said that children from below the poverty line must be given maximum opportunity to showcase their skills and talent and not be made to do menial jobs. He said this while addressing a gathering of under privileged kids on Sunday, which was also World Day Against Child Labour. A small celebration was held at Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium during which slum kids portrayed their problems through a short play that was staged by them. The ocassion coincided with the memorial of Sane Guruji, the great reformer of the state, and was part of the 125th birthday of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. In his address Matkari said, “The purpose of starting the slum theatre movement in Thane is to provide underprivileged children with a platform where they can exhibit their talent.”
