UMC launches ‘Abhay Yojana’, offers 100% waiver on property tax penalties from March 13–16
ULHASNAGA: In a move aimed at providing relief to taxpayers, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has announced a special “Abhay Yojana” under which penalty charges on pending property tax and water tax will be waived for a limited period.
The decision was taken following demands by MLA Kumar Ailani who urged the civic administration to introduce a relief scheme for citizens facing difficulties in clearing their tax dues. Responding positively to the request, Municipal Commissioner Manisha Awhale approved the implementation of the scheme for four days from March 13 to March 16, 2026.
Under the scheme, citizens who pay their pending property tax and water tax dues in a lump sum during this period will receive a special waiver on penalty charges. Officials said the initiative is expected to encourage more residents to clear their outstanding dues while benefiting from the penalty relief.
According to the civic administration, if citizens pay their entire outstanding property tax along with the current demand for the financial year 2025–26, they will receive a 100% waiver on the delayed penalty amount.
MLA Kumar Ailani had earlier written to the municipal administration and also discussed the matter with Commissioner Manisha Awhale over the phone, requesting the implementation of the scheme to provide relief to taxpayers. Several leaders from different political parties had also approached the mayor demanding a similar relief scheme.
Ailani thanked Commissioner Manisha Awhale for taking a decision in the interest of the citizens and implementing the Abhay Yojana.
Meanwhile, Mayor Ashwini Nikam appealed to residents to take advantage of the scheme within the stipulated period. She said taxpayers who have pending dues should clear them during the scheme period to avail the benefits.
The mayor also warned that if taxpayers fail to clear their dues within the given time frame, they will be responsible for any strict administrative action taken by the municipal corporation in the future.
The civic administration has urged citizens to co-operate by clearing their pending taxes and help strengthen the municipal body’s financial resources for carrying out development and civic works in the city.
