The scheme was implemented on 24th February and will continue until 18th March. This initiative will help the civic body effectively recover arrears of property tax within the UMC jurisdiction, said a UMC official.

Manisha Awhale, UMC Commissioner, said, "This will be the last Abhay Yojana scheme for property tax holders on the request of political parties, after which we will not give any relaxation to those who pay late property taxes."

Awhale further stated, "I appeal to those who delayed paying property taxes to pay during the scheme because once the scheme is over, UMC will take stringent action against those who do not pay property taxes on time."

Various political party leaders, including BJP MLA Kumar Ailani and NCP (SP)’s Ulhasnagar District President Pancham Kalani, requested a special amnesty scheme for citizens in the city.

UMC has decided to waive 100% of the tax penalty for those who pay between 24th February and 6th March, and 75% of the tax penalty between 7th March and 12th March. Additionally, a 50% waiver in the penalty is allowed from 13th March to 18th March.

This means that taxpayers need to pay only the outstanding amount if making payment between 24th February and 6th March. A 25% penalty on the outstanding tax amount will apply if payment is made between 7th March and 12th March, while a 50% penalty will be applicable for payments made between 13th March and 18th March.

Under the special amnesty scheme, there will be no relief in the arrears of the original property tax amount due, as the entire outstanding amount must be paid at once to avail of the benefits. Partially paid amounts will not qualify for this scheme, said officials.
