THANE: The Shiv Sena has claimed the late Friday on its two key party functionaries - Mahesh Gaikwad and Rahul Patil - was pre-mediated and expressed hope that those responsible for the incident would be brought to book.

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde and key Thane district functionary Gopal Landge were addressing the media, Saturday, following a visit by Chief minister Eknath Shinde, Saturday, at a Thane private hospital where the duo was recuperating after being allegedly fired upon by BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad in Ulhasnagar, late Friday.

“The attack wasn’t done in self-defence as is being claimed and seemed to be premeditated. How can any elected representative open fire inside a police station?” questioned Landge.

“Six bullets that were fired at Gaikwad have been removed while two bullets were also removed from Patil’s body. They have been shifted to the ICU and their condition is critical… The truth is before everyone to see and the police are investigating the matter further. We are confident those responsible will be booked,” MP Shinde told reporters outside the hospital.

Meanwhile, BJP MLC and past Thane BJP president, Niranjan Davkhare, who visited the Kalwa police station for personal work, Saturday afternoon, said the firing incident was unexpected and unfortunate. He refused to comment on the alleged widening rift between the Shiv Sena and BJP cadres in Thane and summed up that appropriate action would be taken in the incident.
