Two Sena men shot at inside Maharashtra's Ulhasnagar police station after clash with BJP
KALYAN: Shiv Sena city unit president Mahesh Gaikwad and local party politician Rahul Patil were shot and injured inside a police station in Ulhasnagar following clashes with BJP supporters led by MLA Ganpat Gaikwad on Friday.
Mahesh Gaikwad sustained three bullet injuries and was said to be in a critical condition. Patil sustained two bullet injuries and was said to be out of danger.
Police detained Ganpat Gaikwad and the people who allegedly opened fire in the senior police inspector's cabin.
The firing is said to be the fallout of an ongoing political fight between the two Gaikwads. Mahesh Gaikwad is a supporter of Kalyan Loksabha MP Shrikant Shinde, son of CM Eknath Shinde. In the past, senior politicians had to intervene after the workers from the parties fought in public.
Police sources said that late on Friday both groups were at the Hill Line police station over a plot dispute. At the police station, Mahesh Gaikwad and Rahul Patil were complaining against Ganpat Gaikwad when Ganpat reached the spot with his supporters. Police personnel were deployed in the area to defuse the tension.
