Thane rains: Normal life unaffected; part of flat in Mahagiri Koliwada collapses, 16 tenants evacuated

A part of a first-floor flat owned by one Farukh Shaikh in the Saheja society in

Mahagiri Koliwada

area collapsed around 10.45 am on a grocery store beneath on Thursday morning, leaving residents of the 25-year-old building to panic and rush outdoors.

cell informed they have evacuated the structure and will ascertain its fate following an expert report.

Meanwhile, 16 tenants were evacuated and sent to nearby shelters. A customer who was at the spot said he barely escaped injury as part of the rubble fell nearby.

Meanwhile, the body of a 33-year-old man who had jumped in the drain at Ambedkar Nagar, in the wee hours of Sunday was traced on Thursday as the heavy currents swept it till Vitawa.

Locals spotted the body floating along the banks and alerted the rescue teams that retrieved it following which the identity was established. The Kalwa police have registered an accidental death case.
