KALYAN: A 53-year-old head constable of Railway Protection Force (RPF) died after falling into the gap between train and platform while alighting from a long-distance train at Kasara railway station. The head constable, Dilip Sonawane, had entered the train after being called by passengers to resolve a dispute. Kalyan RPF jawans said Sonawane was known as an honest and dedicated person who used to do his work with sincerity.
The Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) official probing the case said that the incident took place on Sunday at 6.46 am. He was deployed on the night shift (11 pm to 7 am) at Kasara station. The Kanpur Express had arrived at platform 1 of Kasara station. Mukesh Dhage, senior police inspector of Kalyan GRP, said, "Sonawane was inside the train when it started moving. In the rush to climb down, he lost his balance and fell into the gap between the platform and the train. He was run over and died on the spot."
The passengers alerted RPF and GRP personnel who rushed him to the nearest primary health centre where he was declared brought dead. His body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination Mukesh Saini, senior police inspector of Kasara RPF said, "Sonawane had been working with the RPF for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife and three sons who are working."
