Thane: One crore in old notes seized, six arrested

The police on Friday seized Rs 1 crore in old currency of Rs 1,000 notes which were scrapped during demonetization. Acting on a tip off, the police laid a trap in Anand Nagar on Friday evening and caught six men with the money in three bags.

THANE: The police on Friday seized Rs 1 crore in old currency of Rs 1,000 notes which were scrapped during demonetization. Acting on a tip off, the police laid a trap in Anand Nagar on Friday evening and caught six men with the money in three bags.
“We had received information that a gang was going to come to the spot to exchange money. The gang was headed by Badla pur resident Suresh Zhondale, who works as a journalist with a local magazine.

The gang members are in the age group of 45 to 55 years and most of them are unemployed. They were travelling in a car which also belongs to Zhondale, said Sunil Lokhande, DCP zone"5.
The other arrested accused have been identified as Malkan Pawar and Mil Lukhana, who reside in Badlapur, Uttam Patil from Dombivli, Naresh Kulkarni from Kalyan and Amol Shinde from Panvel.
