MUMBAI: Despite a recovery rate of 84 per cent, the rising coronavirus deaths in the Mira-Bhayander region are a cause for worry, said health officials.

In the last 10 days, the Mira-Bhayander region has recorded 48 Covid-19 deaths. Since the start of the month, the death count has been 138 in the region, taking the total toll on Thursday to 416. In July, 129 deaths were reported and in June, 112 persons succumbed to the virus here.

Health officials said that hiding of symptoms is leading to several patients reaching hospitals late and in a serious condition. The number of positive cases reached 12,050 on Thursday, and over 41,000 swabs have been tested so far.

Meanwhile, a BJP corporator from Bhayander has tested positive for Covid-19 and is being treated in a hospital. The corporator got a test done after developing symptoms associated with the novel coronavirus.
