THANE: Two prolific local athletes Nidhi Singh and Akshaya Iyer were the cynosure of all eyes at the recently held ICSE/ISC Schools National Athletics Meet at Trissur, Kerala. They brought home a bunch of medals and individual championship titles.
Singh and Iyer, students of Smt Sulochana Devi Singhania School, came up triumphant in their respective events at the nationals, which was contested by state champions from ISCE and ISC affiliated schools across the country.

Singh, taking part in the under-16 girls' group, won double gold and an equal number of silver medals at the meet. With this impressive achievement she was awarded the individual championship trophy in her age group. She won gold in 400m and 800m races clocking a finishing time of 61.11 seconds and 2.33:00 respectively. She also won a silver in 200m race with 27.5 seconds. Her second silver medal came from 4x100m relay.
Iyer, participating in the under-18 girls' group, was declared as the individual champion for bagging triple gold and a bronze medal. Her gold marks came through 200m sprint with an elapsed time of 26.9 seconds, long jump with 4.84 meter leap, 100m sprint covered in 13.2 seconds. She won a bronze in the 4x100m team relay.
