Thane girls qualify for nat’l athletic event

THANE: City athletes Apoorva Ghagare and Nidhi Singh have been selected for the Youth National Athletic Championship to be held at Calicut from May 26-28, after they cleared the qualifying selection trials held in Pune recently for the under 18 boys’ and girls’categories.Nidhi Singh secured top position in the under 18 girls’ group in 400m sprint and 400m hurdles clocking 60 seconds and 72.5 seconds respectively in her final attempt. Apoorva Ghagare secured the 2nd position in the long jump and triple jump event in the under 18 girls’ group, covering a distance of 5.19m and 10.89m respectively.
