KALYAN: A police constable suffered serious injuries to his face while stopping a fight between two groups in

Ulhasnagar

town of Maharashtra's Thane district on Friday.

The two groups were fighting over a money dispute when police constable Ganesh Damale along with his colleague reached the spot to stop the fight. However, one of the accused instead stabbed him in the face.

During the fight, two other persons -- Sanjay Chitlani and Avinash Naidu -- also suffered serious injuries and they are currently being treated at the JJ hospital in Mumbai.

police station has registered an FIR against Naresh Lefty, Omie and Shashi Chikna alias Sukhi, and a search for the trio is underway.

Police sources said that Naresh, who is involved in a cricket betting business, had some money due with Sanjay and was demanding the same from him.

around 2 am on Friday, where Avinash, who is a habitual criminal, asked Naresh to wait for a few more months for the money, due to which the latter got angry.

Naresh attacked Sanjay and Avinash with a knife, injuring both of them. When constable Damale learned about the brawl, he reached the spot and tried to stop, but instead, Naresh stabbed him in the face, before fleeing the place.

Later, more police personnel reached the spot and rushed the injured to different hospitals.
