Thane athlete bags silver at Senior Interstate Athletics Championship

Shraddha Ghule, an athlete from Thane won the silver medal in the recently concluded Senior Interstate Athletics Championships held at Bangalore from June 11 and 14 that witnessed about 20 states and some 750 athletes compete in the events.

THANE: Shraddha Ghule, an athlete from Thane won the silver medal in the recently concluded Senior Interstate Athletics Championships held at Bangalore from June 11 and 14 that witnessed about 20 states and some 750 athletes compete in the events.
In the triple jump, Ghule leapt 12.80 meters. "Praju Shah from Kerala won the gold. But Shraddha was fourth in the long jump, with a shock reading of 5.03, as she usually leaps well over six meters," said her Chief Coach Dalvi.
The other Thaneite who participated, but under performed was triple jumper Dhiraj Mishra who leapt just 15.37 meters, coming sixth.

Mishra's best jump so far is 16.08.
He promises to get back to peak levels. "In the monsoons I am training at a Kandivili sports club where there is a synthetic track which allows training under all conditions. His coach Nagesh Shetty said, "It is true that the transition from juniors to seniors can be difficult as the standards are different. Dhiraj hopefully will settle down in time." The winner was Arpinder Singh who is the bronze medalist at the junior Asian Games 2010.
