Poll duty crackdown in Dombivli: FIR against 80 school staff for skipping KDMC election training
KALYAN: With the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) gearing up for the civic election, the civic administration has initiated strict action against employees who failed to comply with election-related duties. An FIR has been registered against 80 staff members of Pawar Public School, Palava, Dombivli (East), for remaining absent from mandatory election training sessions.
According to civic officials, the services of government, semi-government officers and employees, along with teaching and non-teaching staff from schools and colleges, have been requisitioned to ensure that the municipal elections are conducted in a transparent, smooth and time-bound manner. As part of this process, 80 employees from Pawar Public School were officially appointed for election duties and were issued formal orders.
Vandan Ghulwe, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of KDMC told TOI that despite repeated reminders and follow-up calls, the staff members failed to report for the training organised for election work, thereby causing an obstruction in the election preparation process.
Following this, Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rokde lodged an FIR against the absentees under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan.
Civic officials stressed that participation in election duties is mandatory and non-compliance would invite legal consequences.
Meanwhile, KDMC commissioner and election officer Abhinav Goel issued a warning, stating that any officer or employee appointed for election duties on January 15 and 16, 2026, who remains absent without valid permission will face similar legal action. The civic body has reiterated that it will not tolerate negligence or dereliction of duty during the election process, as smooth conduct of polls remains a top priority.
