Pt GG Joshi is the founder of Sangeet Premi Mandal (SPM), accomplished vocalist of Agra Gharana and also runs a gurukul where he trains aspiring singers in traditional Agra style of singing.
This week SPM celebrated Pt. Joshi's Amrit Mahotsav (75th birthday) by felicitating him for his service to music. It was followed by Joshi's vocal recital. Pt Joshi commenced his performance with a khayal in Raga Khem Kalyan. It was followed by pyari paga hole' a trial composition in Raga Bihagda. He delighted the audience by presenting rare raga Bihari-nat and a pahadi thumri. Joshi concluded his performance with devotional Shriram Bhajan.
Milind Naik accompanied him on the Tabla, Prakash Chitnis on the Harmonium and Joshi's disciples including SNS Rao, K N Satish, Arvind Khare, and Pinak Roy provided vocal support.
On this occasion, Advocate D.K.Ghaisas, former president of SPM expressed his thoughts.
He said, "Pt Joshi is the backbone of our music circle. He knows all top musicians and has toiled hard to organize concerts of celebrities in Thane. For every programme fund raising is a great obstacle for us. But Joshi is always confident about it and with his mind he managed to get sufficient funds from people. Everyone knows about Joshi's sincerity and dedication to music hence, the artists and the financers cannot refuse his request. He has passion for music and he started learning music at the age of 21. But, during service he couldn't give much time to music in real sense.
After retirement he started his efforts and with the guidance from Ustad Shafi Ahmad Khan Doyen of Agra gharana his singing flourished and he performed in many concerts. It's a commendable thing that Pt Joshi has found a Gurukul named Agra gharana Guru-shishya Parampara' and he is distributing his knowledge among his students".
