THANE: The Naupada police arrested the president of
Thane
Youth Nationalist Congress Party (
NCP), Abhijit Pawar, and five of his aides for allegedly chanting
anti-slogans
against a regional newspaper on Wednesday. The men, arrested under various sections of the Mumbai Police Act were, however, later released on bail.
“The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2pm, opposite the NCP office at Panchpakhadi wherein Pawar and 10 to 15 men and women activists chanted anti-slogans against a regional paper for publishing a caricature called ‘mukka morcha’ which was based on the ongoing Maratha protests. They even burnt a few copies of the daily to show their anger against the cartoon,” said an officer from Naupada police station.
The arrested men excluding Pawar were Ramesh Dodhke, Praful Kamble, Vinod Tode, Rohan Patil and Sanket Narne. tnn
