Medical student complains of ragging in hostel

Thane: An unidentified MBBS student studying at the municipal corporation run- Rajiv Gandhi Medical College (RGMC), Kalwa has accused some of his seniors of ragging at the college hostel last week, officials said. The administration said they have received the complaint and are investigating. No police complaint has been lodged in the incident yet.Dr Rakesh Barot, Dean of RGMC, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital said, “We were informed on September 8 about the incident by the anti-ragging cell. The identity of the complainant cannot be disclosed. We have initiated a probe in the incident.” tnn

JU strengthens anti-ragging panel

Jadavpur University in Kolkata has expanded its anti-ragging committee to include 33 members, including representatives from the media, parents, an NGO, and an organization involved in counseling therapy. The committee now also includes undergraduate students from the arts and science faculties. Meanwhile, the Jadavpur University Teachers Association (JUTA) has expressed concerns about the formation of the hostel boarders reallocation committee, stating that it may violate university provisions and affect the process of hostel allocation. The university recently hosted a workshop on anti-ragging to address the issue and provide counseling to students.

Anti-ragging panel a toothless tiger?

Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, which is currently facing a ragging controversy, lacks a comprehensive anti-ragging mechanism. Students have complained that the college's anti-ragging committee does not include representation from students, parents, civil administration, media, or NGOs, making it ineffective. The National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines state that the committee should have a diverse mix of members, but at GMC, 13 out of 15 members are from the college or Gandhi Hospital. The committee's duties include monitoring anti-ragging activities and investigating reports of ragging.
