BHIWANDI: A married couple has been booked for allegedly running a clinic illegally without any recognized medical degree in
Bhiwandi
on Saturday.
The couple has been identified as
Biju Varghese Topil
(50) and
Valsa Biju Topil
(49). Both were running a clinic in Nai Basti area in Bhiwandi.
The incident came to light recently when a social worker from Bhiwandi complained to Bhiwandi- Nijzampura Municipal Corporation alleging that a couple without having any doctors' degree operating clinic in Nai Basti area resulting many people has to suffer side effects from medicines given by them. Following to the complaint, the Health Department formed a team who on Friday visited the M S Clinic run by couple and made enquiry about their degree and found out that they were not having any recognized degree and were distributing medicines which as per law no one can distribute without holding any degree.
As per the findings, health officer Dr Rajkumar Sharma seized medicines and treatment related equipment from spot and after making panchnama registered case under relevant sections of
Maharashtra Medical Practitioner Act 1961. Subhash Kokate, senior police inspector of Bhiwandi city police station said, “We have booked accused under relevant sections and very soon they will be get arrested in the case”.
The case registered after locals complained about bogus husband- wife doctors to local health department.
