Thane: A Balkum resident is said to be under police vigil after he reportedly made a third and an unsuccessful attempt to set ablaze his apartment on Friday.
The Kapurbawdi police had summoned Rueben James Paul, a resident of Shiv Smruti building, a ground plus one-storey building following complaints about his unusual behaviour by residents who reported smoke from his house on Friday noon.
The chairperson of the housing society, Sebastian D’souza said, “Children playing outside the building noticed smoke coming out from the ground floor flat and alerted other neighbours who called the fire brigade.”
Santosh Kadam, chief, regional disaster management cell, said this was the third such call from the same location.
He said, “This is the third time that the same man has tried to set his house on fire. Even though the building has a MGL connection, luckily Paul has not opted for the same. Otherwise, it would have been easier for the building to catch fire.”
