THANE: In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, a local volunteer, Shubham Chandaliya, reported an incident of a stray dog being sexually abused at the Wagle Estate area of Thane.
The accused, identified as Pritam Sahu (40) of Indiranagar area, was caught on the spot committing the heinous act, prompting immediate action from animal activists and welfare organizations.
An FIR has been lodged at the Shrinagar police station against the accused under section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The FIR was filed by animal activist Yogita Narwekar from PAL (Pure Animal Lovers) Welfare Foundation, ensuring legal action was taken against the accused.
An incriminating video evidence in this regard was also submitted to the police for further legal action.
The legal process was further guided and supported by Sudhir Kudalkar, founder of PAL Welfare Foundation, and Sandeep Kudtarkar, an Animal Rights Advisor at PAL Welfare Foundation, and Animal Welfare Officer at the Animal Welfare Board of India.
“In addition to securing justice, efforts were made to ensure the dog received immediate medical attention. Our volunteer Sarthak Chougle took the traumatized animal to SPCA Parel Hospital for necessary medical tests and treatment,'' said Kudtarkar.
This gruesome act serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws. “We urge the authorities to take swift legal action against the accused and call upon society to stand against such heinous crimes against voiceless beings,'' he added.
PAL has also urged the local police to soon file the chargesheet in this case, so that justice can be swiftly served to the accused man.
