THANE: A 38-year-old cheat has been booked for allegedly marrying at least six women whom he met through matrimonial website, telling them that he had divorced his first wife. The police said that the accused has been identified as
Sanjay Verma, 38 and a resident of Goregaon.
The officer added that a victim aged-37 was duped by Verma of Rs 10 lakh in her complaint told the police that she is a divorcee and she had created her profile on matrimonial site.
“Referring to the advertisement the alleged accused in July 2016, contacted her and proposed to her stating that he has divorced his first wife and he had a son. He also lured the victim stating that he had huge property in ranging in crores,” said Ganpat Pingle, the senior police inspector of Chitalsar police station.
Unsuspecting victim trusted the man and initially held the engagement and later married him. Surprisingly, he had come alone for both the ceremonies.
In the last few months, Verma started extracting money from her, the officer added. “He gave several excuses for getting money from her and even stole her gold ornamentsfrom her house to get money,” Pingle added.
When the victim started investigating, she found that he had cheated four more women and is already married to a woman and that has not divorced her. “Once she secretly checked his mobile phone and found that he is indulging in the same activities with various women on the matrimonial site,” said the officer.
He would initially strike a friendship on the website and would slowly increase his interaction with the victims. Later, he would show that he is in need of money and extract it from the victims.
